As summer sadly winds down, I thought I would host a Mostly Burgundy night at long time UWS favorite. Nice Matin. 1 white and 3 reds, all from Burgundy, plus 1 Oregon Pinot Noir.

They are located on the corner of W. 79th and Amsterdam Ave.

Here is a link to their menu:

** The cost of this event is $39 and is for the cost of the wines.

NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It is annoying and confusing, but there is nothing I can do about it. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. MEETUP+ members are exempt from this charge.

Just a reminder of our usual rules:

You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). You will be expected to order at least 2 dishes (an appetizer and a main, or main and dessert) to help support the restaurant.

Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $6 service fee.

The Wines (notes will be distributed at the dinner):
2022 Joannès Violot-Guillemard Bourgogne Pinot Beurrot ($35) - A Pinot Beurrot aka Pinot Gris from Burgundy. Jasper Morris 88 points, "One plot dates from 1982, supplemented by some from 2017. Very floral and not too ripe, the first picked so it still has an excellent zesty quality. I like this balance and it has excellent energy behind. A good way to make it. Drink from 2024-2026. Tasted: October 2023." NOTE: I had a bottle a year ago, and thought the following, "A lot of mineraliyt and it tasted as if it had undergone Malolactic fermentation. Full bodied for a white."

2021 Torii Mor Pinot Noir Reserve Deux Verres ($50) - My last bottle purchased at the winery during my summer of 2023 trip to the Pacific Northwest. The Drunken Cyclist, 93 points, "really liked this during the 6th Annual Blind Tasting of American Pinot Noir (93 Points) and it is right up there again. Light in color but rich in aromas, flavors, texture, and depth, this stops well short of overwhelming, but there is a lot to process here in a very good way. As with many Willamette Valley wines, the acidity carries the wine from start to finish and makes this not only a delicious sipper on its own, but fantastic with our Wagyu fajitas. Outstanding."

2019 Château de la Maltroye Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Boudriotte Rouge ($60) - Allan Meadows gave the 2021 version 91 points, ""An ultra-fresh nose freely offers up an array of red berries, just turned earth and a touch of forest floor. Here too there is very good richness to the solidly concentrated and relatively powerful medium-bodied flavors that deliver fine length on the balanced and dusty finish. This is quite rich and while it has the stuffing to age successfully, it could also be enjoyed young if desired. 91/2028+"

2021 Domaine François Buffet Volnay ($50) - My cousin Alan, Burgundy Al on cellartracker gave this 89 points in January 2024, "Lighter style of Volnay with plenty of red cherry and berry throughout with enough the subtle spice and floral notes that speak Volnay to me.. Starts out seeming medium weight, but picks up steam and power with more air. Give this a few more years in the cellar, 88-89 point potential."

2023 Domaine Chicotot Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Papillons de Nuys ($65) - I bought 6 bottles from this producer and this is my first time tying one. 90-92 Jasper Morris "Four Star" wine, "Rich purple. Quite a flamboyant bouquet with ripe cherries. The fruit is altogether cleaner across the palate, with a finish which is both lifted and drier at the same time, from the stems. A couple of black cherries complete the picture. Drink from 2028-2033. Tasted Nov 2024." From the importer, "This is an interesting cuvée from three old vine sites, its core built from 120+ year old vines in Au Chouillet on the N/Vosne side of the appellation; it also includes some Tuyeaux and Plateaux."
