Bargain Wines at ABA

Join me for an 8 person dinner of Bargain wines with one white wine and four red wines. We will be dining at group favorite, ABA Turkish. These wines came from WA state marketers Garagiste and Full Pull, and Delaware importer/retailer Robert Panzer. Should be fun!

The cost for this event is $26, and is for the wine only.

PLUS a reminder of our usual rules:

You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). Please order at least two courses (i.e. a main dish and either appetizer or dessert) for your dinner. There are very few restaurants that allow us to bring our own wine for a low corkage fee. We must be good guests to encourage the restaurant to continue to be generous to us.

Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $5 service fee.

The Wines (notes will be distributed at the dinner):
2022 JM Cellars Viognier ($27) - Purchased directly from the winery. Very enjoyable. I shared this with my wine group last December and everyone enjoyed it. Maybe a little more acidic than other WA state Viogniiers that I've had, but it is a pleasing acidity. Tropical fruit notes on the palate. Medium length finish. Great QPR.

2021 Domaine Cabirau Maury Sec Serge & Marie ($17) - This wine is a BARGAIN! Every time I pour it, the group loves it. JD 93 points, (which is frankly a few points too high) "Always a brilliant value as well as a terrific wine, the 2021 Maury Sec Serge & Marie is based largely on Grenache yet includes one-third Carignan. Black cherries, darker raspberries, dried violets, loamy earth, pepper, and sandalwood all emerge on the nose, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a seamless, elegant mouthfeel, soft tannins, and a great finish. This cuvée always shows the perfumed, riper style of Maury yet never comes across as heavy or cumbersome, and if anything, this 2021 could easily be mistaken for a beautiful Pinot Noir. It's perfect for enjoying any time over the coming 7-8 years. (Drink between 2023-2031)"

2022 Clusel-Roch Côtes du Rhône Les Vergers ($45) - Probably my last bottle of this French Syrah. 4.5 stars John Livingstone Learmonth, "Dark red robe; this has a bold, iron-blood filled bouquet, intensity in the red fruit, smoky fissures, rose petals on the premises. The palate presents an appealing flow of red cherry fruits, has flair, and a tight line of tannin, clear tannin. It finishes with a lightly floral precision, is most harmonious, gives cool, crystalline drinking, on the naked side, very pure. There are notes of the scented Lapsang Souchong tea on the palate."

2020 JM Cellars Las Piedras Margaret's Vineyard ($41) - From WA state's Walla Walla Valley, Aged in 60% new French oak, 40% once used French oak, for twenty-one months. A blend of 42% Petit Verdot, 29% Syrah, and 29% Mourvèdre. From the winery, "Showing a distinct minerality accompanied by flavors and aromas of raspberry, dark cherry, chocolate, and a hint of crème brulée."

2021 The Walls Vineyards Wonderful Nightmare ($57) - I really enjoy this WA state Tempranillo blend. Owen Bargreen 95 points, "95 points
This Tempranillo has 25% Mourvèdre blended in. Inky in the glass, this offers beautiful stony character on the palate, alongside dark currants, wet stone and pipe tobacco notes with blackberry compote. Delicious and rich, enjoy over the next ten years to come. This is seriously good stuff. Drink 2024-2036 (drink 2024-2036)"
