Just a reminder of our usual rules:
** The cost of this event is $39 and is for the cost of the wines and corkage only.
NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It is annoying and confusing, but there is nothing I can do about it. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. MEETUP+ members are exempt from this charge.
You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). Please order at least two courses (i.e. a main dish and either appetizer or dessert) for your dinner. There are very few restaurants that allow us to bring our own wine for a Zero corkage fee. We must be good guests to encourage the restaurant to continue to be generous to us.
Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $6 service fee. Please use public transportation - NO DRINKING AND DRIVING!
The Wines:
2023 Julien Brocard Petit Chablis Les Plantes - Vinous 88-90 The 2023 Petit Chablis Les Plantes has an expressive bouquet with orange pith, mango and apricot scents, well-defined and generous. The palate is well balanced with a little chewiness on the entry. Quite weighty for a Petit Chablis, but I appreciate the subtle spiciness that flows through the finish. Very fine.
2020 Château du Courneau, Margaux - Cellar Tracker(Delund) 89, 1 hour decant, 60 F. Deep ruby color. Plum jam on the nose, smokey tobacco with floral and olive notes. Smooth tannins, no noticeable heat. Medium+ body. Light acidity. Blackberry, black cherry, dried oak and spice notes with a slight metallic touch on the palate. Lingering finish. Could develop a bit more depth and complexity with a few years of age.
2018 Chateau Malescot-St-Exupery La Dame de Malescot, Margaux - James Suckling 93, This is so drinkable and pretty with fine tannins, as well as currant, spice, cedar and light chocolate aromas and flavors. It’s medium-bodied and very fine-tannined with a long and persistent finish.
2015 Chateau Durfort-Vivens, Margaux - Vinous 93, The 2015 Durfort-Vivens has a perfumed bouquet with more ripeness and perfume than the previous vintage. Buoyant red berry fruit, blueberry and a touch of violet; it is perhaps more Margaux-like than the 2014. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy with fine acidity, a touch of white pepper and clove toward the finish, and a hint of espresso on the aftertaste. This is a superb Durfort-Vivens, arguably the finest up to that point. Tasted twice, both at the château and at Jascott’s Bordeaux tasting in London.
