Collector's Night - Il Monello
Details
Let's go to Il Monello, an Italian Steakhouse on E. 49th Street, and I haven't done an event there in a while. So for this night, a 8 person, Saturday night. Featuring 4 reds. PLEASE NOTE, there will be ONLY 4 wines at this event. No white wine. This will leave everyone the option of getting a pre-dinner cocktail, a white wine, or simply drinking a little less!
Here is a link to their menu...

** The cost of this event is $95 and is for the cost of the wines and corkage only. Please understand, that Il Monello charges us corkage, which is included in the price of the event.
NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It is annoying and confusing, but there is nothing I can do about it. It comes to approximately $6 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. Sorry! MEETUP+ members are exempt from this charge.
Just a reminder of our usual rules:
You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). Please order at least two courses (i.e. a main dish and either appetizer or dessert) for your dinner.
Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $8 service fee.
Please use public transportation - NO DRINKING AND DRIVING!
The Wines (notes will be distributed at the dinner):
2021 Schrader Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon LPV Beckstoffer ($290) -
From Debbie's personal collection. She will decant it at home before bringing it to the restaurant. WA 96, WS 97, JD 98 points, "Coming from a site on the west side of St. Helena and 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard sports a dense purple hue to go with an incredible nose of savory red and black fruits, dried flowers, iron, and loamy earth, with the classic minerality that this site always seems to yield. With full-bodied richness and a layered, multi-dimensional style on the palate, as well as incredible tannins, give this beauty just a few years in the cellar and enjoy over the following 20-25+ years. (Drink between 2023-2048)" WA 96 points, "Consistently sourced from C block (planted to clone 337), Schrader's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard LPV features scents of crushed stone, mocha, plum and cassis, plus some peppery spice accents. It's full-bodied and concentrated, a bit creamy and supple across the mid-palate, then finishes long and tannic (but ripe). Classic stuff, it's maybe a bit less exotic than some previous vintages. Drink 2025-2045"
2018 Lewelling Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Wight ($80) - JD 97 points, "The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Wight Vineyard is a smaller selection from the estate vineyard, and it spent 20 months in 90% new French oak, of which it shows not a trace. Beautiful cassis fruits, notes of smoke, tobacco, and chocolate, full-bodied richness, velvety tannins, and a blockbuster style all define this gorgeous 2018, which offers both intellectual and hedonistic pleasure. It has another two decades of prime drinking ahead of it. (Drink between 2021-2041)"
2013 Larkmead Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon ($120) - WA 93 points, "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (White Label) is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 20 months in about two-thirds new French oak. Very Bordeaux-like, with a St.-Julien-like personality, there are notes of crushed stones, gunflint, licorice, cedar wood, Christmas fruitcake and loads of red and blackcurrants. It is a powerful wine with a hint of chocolate as well. This beautiful and structured yet elegant wine should drink well for at least 15-25 years. (drink 2015-2040)"
2012 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon ($85) - The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is a killer effort and a fabulous sleeper of the vintage. It is a big cuvée of 5,500-plus cases, aged 20 months in 40% new French oak, and a final blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot from both the Sonoma and Napa sides of their vineyard. Deep purple, with notes of white chocolate, créme de cassis, blackberry, crushed rock and spring flowers, the wine has great intensity and a full-bodied mouthfeel, as well as beautiful purity, ripeness and length. It can be drunk now or cellared for at least another 12-15+ years, which is very much in keeping with the style of the dramatic but great 2012s. (drink 2015-2030)
