On November 13, Felix Unger was asked to remove himself from his place of residence. That request came from his wife.

Opening to the Odd Couple TV Show on YouTube

Felix Unger has been portrayed by Art Carney (on Stage), Jack Lemmon (on Screen) and by Tony Randall (on TV).

Join me as we celebrate Felix Unger Day at Bobby Van's on Park night for a 7pm reservation. As I always think of Tony Randall's Felix as a Francophile, all the wines will come from France!

Here is a link to their menu...

Just a reminder of our usual rules:

** The cost of this event is $33 and is for the cost of the wines only.

NOTE: Meetup has started charging a "Partner Fee" that is above and in addition to the listed price of the event. It comes to approximately $4 more for each RSVP. You will see this charge when you complete your rsvp and pay for the event. Sorry! Meetup+ members are exempt from this charge.

You will also have to pay the cost of your food (plus 33% for tax and tip). Please order at least two courses (i.e. a main dish and either appetizer or dessert) for your dinner. There are very few restaurants that allow us to bring our own wine for a Zero corkage fee. We must be good guests to encourage the restaurant to continue to be generous to us.

Please read and understand the group's cancellation policy. If you take spot, then cancel, and no one else takes the spot, you will not receive a refund or credit. No refunds or credits will be given for no-shows or late cancellations (unless someone else takes your spot). All cancellations are subject to a $6 service fee.

Please use public transportation - NO DRINKING AND DRIVING!

The Wines :

2021 Domaine Denis Bachelet Bourgogne-Aligoté ($45) - I do love my Aligote, Burgundy's OTHER white wine! Pretty much never reviewed by WA or WS, it is a saline wine, one that the importer calls a "Margarita" wine. I think it goes great with Oysters.

2022 Domaine Dujardin Monthélie Les Trois Climats ($35) - A Red Burgundy. From the importer, "It is made up three nicely contrasting old vine (50-70 years) sites whose combined impression is really complete and compelling.; the three sites are Sous le Cellier (w the cooler influence of the Combe Danay and fine, well draining alluvial soils), les Jouères which brings depth/richness (just below the 1er cru Duresses, half of which is Monthélie and half of which is Auxey-Duresses), and les Longenes (another in the Combe Danay). There is roughly 30-40% whole cluster use in this '22. Again, super pure, crystalline, and intense violet like florals and moderate dark red/light black fruited aromatics with an even greater sense of depth vs the Beaune, lead to deep, textured wine of great floral/spicy persistence and airy lift. The effect of the combe, of the old vines, of at once both light earthen savory elements and airy floral elements, are all present and harmonized in a quite complete package."

2010 Domaine de la Côte de l'Ange Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes ($55) - On to the Southern Rhone! WA 96 points, "
If you can find any, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes, which comes from nearly 80-year-old vines planted in sandy and limestone soils, is a blend of 85% Grenache aged in foudres and 15% Mourvedre aged in small oak casks. The 2007 version of this wine is prodigious, but this is close and may even eclipse that wine, but time will be the final arbiter. Dense purple, with a full-bodied mouthfeel, loads of blackberry fruit, intense kirsch, oodles of licorice, lavender, and garrigue notes, this is layered, sumptuous, full-throttle wine with good acidity, sweet, moderate tannin, and a skyscraper-like mouthfeel and finish. Drink this sensational wine over the next 20-25 years. It is one of the great wines of the vintage."

2013 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Petite Chapelle ($50) - From the Northern Rhone, WA 91 points, "The 2013 Hermitage la Petite Chapelle is more forward and approachable than the grand vin, giving up lots of granite-induced minerality, smoked earth, bouquet garni and assorted dark fruits in its medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated, layered style. Coming from a mix of parcels and aged 15-18 months in roughly 20% new French oak, its should evolve gracefully for 10-15 years."

And to close it out, a red Bordeaux...
2008 Domaine de Chevalier ($60) - WA93 points, "One of the fabulous sleepers of the vintage and a wine for serious Bordeaux afficionados to consider buying, the 2008 is a blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 9% Petit Verdot that achieved 13.5% natural alcohol. Surprisingly backward for a 2008, it is medium to full-bodied with moderate tannins, lots of purity and abundant charcoal, black currant and floral notes. The sweetness of the fruit, depth of flavor and textured, lush mouthfeel in this medium to full-bodied, ageworthy 2008 are impressive. Give it 3-4 years of cellaring and drink it over the following two decades."
