Japanese Art Meetup in NYC Jun2-6
Details
Hi everyone!
I started this Meetup for people who enjoy art, creativity, culture, and simply meeting good people in NYC.
In 2026, the JCAT NY Chelsea Exhibition celebrates its 10th anniversary, and I thought it would be fun to create a casual group where we can explore exhibitions together, talk about art and ideas, and connect with people from different backgrounds.
This year’s theme is “WABI-SABI” — a Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in imperfection, simplicity, and the feeling of time passing.
We’ll check out the exhibition together, but the main idea is really just to meet people, have good conversations, discover new perspectives, and enjoy the creative energy of New York together.
You absolutely do not need to be an artist or know anything about art.
If you’re curious about Japanese culture, enjoy creative spaces, or simply want to meet open-minded people, you’re very welcome.
The exhibition includes over 80 artists and 100+ works, along with traditional Japanese materials like washi paper, indigo dyeing, ceramics, textiles, and more — all interpreted through contemporary art.
There will also be a fun interactive “Kitpas” drawing experience where everyone can participate.
Feel free to come solo or bring friends.
Looking forward to meeting everyone and enjoying the NYC art scene together!
ABOUT JCAT
JCAT (Japanese Contemporary Artists Team) is a New York–based art community built on the concept of “Art for Everyone.”
We are a group that explores how Japanese originality and aesthetics can be shared with the world through contemporary art. More than just artists and creatives, JCAT brings together people from all over the world who are interested in this idea—people who want to think together, take part, and help bring it to life.
While reinterpreting traditional Japanese materials and techniques through a contemporary lens, we value art as a way to share culture and perspectives, and to create new expressions and meaningful connections.
This is an open community where artists, art lovers, people who are drawn to Japanese culture, and anyone who simply enjoys connecting with others are all welcome to join freely.
