NYFMP.org Virtual Meeting, Thursday, May 20, 2021

Details
- It’s been a while!
John Morina of Pueblo Systems, Inc. says... "It’s been a while since our last meeting" ...so it’s time for a real word use case for the While function coupled with JSON.
John will also show an easy method of appending incrementing letters, AA, AB, AC…, in this case to a file name, and a way to use ExecuteSQL() to select a related item.
- The Benefits and Value of Transactions, Part II ; InspectorPro
[2.1] The Benefits and Value of Transactions, Part II
For many of us, working remotely this past year has meant mostly accessing FileMaker systems over a WAN. This has posed immediate challenges to systems that were not originally designed with that in mind.
In the first presentation, Vince covered an approach to setting up a baseline so that we can measure performance. In this presentation, he’ll focus on the performance implications of converting unstored calculations to stored calculations and what considerations need to be taken into account to have data integrity.
Transactions are easy to do in FileMaker. However, transactions are not the be-all and end-all. They are simply a means to allow developers to control the final stored values, among other things.
Vince will also discuss the architecture to control the transaction from start to finish - with the innovative use of something called "Local Data Editing", and how useful this can be.
Part I can be seen here:

It is worth watching before the meeting, but Vince will recap some of the main aspects of the first presentation in this Part II session.
[2.2] InspectorPro | Collaboration, Performance, and Insight
Join us for a tour InspectorPro 7, and learn how it can help you build robust FileMaker solutions, keep them problem free and provide meaningful development insights for your whole team.
- How to succeed...by failing…early ;-)
Failure is an option…that should be handled with planning, foresight, and awesome code.
Tony White will demonstrate a number of easy to implement techniques to make sure that, if your scripts fail, they do so as early and gracefully as possible.
-
Bring your FileMaker questions and ask the audience. It is amazing how many problems a group of FileMaker developers can solve.
