Consensus 2015 Makeathon

We're looking for creative new use-cases for digital currencies and blockchain tech.

We've all heard of recording land title-deeds on the blockchain as an amazing use-case for this tech, but what else is out there? How else can we connect the dots to see new ways of using these revolutionary technologies?

To do this, we're seeking experienced pros and students to join us in a two-day Makethon in New York, run according to 'venture design' principles, with special thanks to our sponsors Citi, KeepKey and Braintree and partners IDEO Futures and General Assembly New York City.

About the Makeathon
Makeathon participants will form teams on the first day to tackle briefs that we'll develop. The focus is on a multi-disciplinary approach to discover fresh use-cases.

Our briefs will be broadly focused on the themes at Consensus 2015: financial inclusion or 'financial plumbing' – the sometimes creaking structures that move money around the world. More details as we develop these.

We'll have a diverse group of mentors and coaches from IDEO Futures, World Vision, Citi Ventures and more. At the end of the second day, judges will look at what's been built. The winning team gets $5,000 in cash.

The Makeathon happens before our digital currency summit, Consensus 2015, so participants will also receive tickets to Consensus 2015 on 10th September.

The Makeathon itself is happening two days before the conference, on 8th and 9th September at General Assembly's awesome space in the Flatiron District.

Who should participate
You don't have to be an expert on blockchains, or a software developer, to participate.

If you're clued up on a particular area like compliance, financial needs of unbanked populations or the inner workings of the global asset-clearing and settlement system, you're who we're looking for. You could be a sector-expert, designer or developer; a current student or experienced pro in these areas.
