Why the Catskills for July 4th Camping?
- Peaceful Nature Experience: The Catskills are known for their quiet and serene environment. You’ll have plenty of space to unwind and enjoy nature at its best.
- High Elevations: For hikers looking to summit over 3500ft, the Catskills offer numerous peaks. Famous mountains like Hunter Mountain (4,040ft) and Slide Mountain (4,180ft) provide rewarding views at their summits and satisfying challenges for experienced hikers.
- Avoiding Crowds: Unlike popular tourist destinations that can get crowded around July 4th, the Catskills offer a more peaceful, back-to-nature experience. If you prefer to avoid large groups, you can explore the many off-the-beaten-path trails.
Itinerary:
July 4th:
- Arrive at Woodland Valley Campground (sites for tents and RVs, picnic tables, fire pits, Showers, and restrooms) at 10 am, and set up your campsite.
- Take a short hike to Giant Ledge, take in the incredible panoramic views of the Catskills, and enjoy a picnic lunch on top.
- Or welcome to relax at the campground and explore nearby nature trails, such as a lake, creek, or scenic view. Take photos, enjoy the natural beauty, and unwind.
- Return to camp for a peaceful night by the campfire. Head to your tent to get a restful sleep.
July 5th:
- Hike Slide, Cornell, and Wittenberg Mountain for a challenging 4,180ft summit. It’s a rewarding hike with beautiful views of the surrounding area.
- Or welcome to take a more leisurely hike to Overlook Mountain, which offers fantastic views and less strenuous paths.
- Return to camp. You could cook a satisfying camp meal or prepare something quick like pre-marinated meat and veggies to grill. Relax by the fire, or chat with fellow campers.
July 6th:
- Have breakfast and begin the process of packing up your campsite.
Make sure to leave the site clean and dispose of any trash properly. - If you have time before departure, take a short morning hike around the campground or nearby nature trail for one last look at the Catskills.
- Head back home, with memories of a peaceful camping trip in the Catskills, feeling refreshed and connected to nature.
Fees: $49 per person for 2 nights and 3 days. Firewood costs will be split among the group. Payment: Venmo@Nature-and-outdoos. After paymented, you will be moved to the attendees list.
Need to Bring:
Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, cooking gear and camping gear
Hiking essentials: sturdy boots, daypack, water, snacks, sunblock, and rain gear (weather can be unpredictable in the Catskills).
Food and beverages for the weekend (we’ll coordinate shared meals, such as group breakfasts and dinners).
Personal items like bug spray, toiletries, and extra layers for cool evenings.
This is a rain-or-shine event.
