West Mountain Sunset Hike: Stunning Views & Golden Light

West Mountain faces directly west, is one of the best sunset spots in Harriman, and offers unobstructed panoramic views over the Hudson River and the Palisades.
As the sun dips behind the ridgelines, the sky lights up with breathtaking color. The area feels remote and peaceful, far from the crowds, a true retreat into nature.
The West Mountain Shelter sits on open rock ledges, perfect for resting, watching the light shift, and soaking in the golden hour.

• Distance: 5+ miles
• Elevation gain: 1000 ft
• Pace: Steady and relaxed, especially the rock scramble sections. We’ll take pauses at scenic viewpoints to rest or simply enjoy the moment.
