Appalachian Trail Traverse. 💙 Farewell Hike for Melanie

Let’s send Melanie off with heart, strength, and high vibes.

This powerful hike honors our beloved friend Melanie, who is soon leaving to serve in the U.S. Navy. We’ll walk in gratitude, admiration, and sisterhood, through forest ridgelines, over rock scrambles, and down to Greenwood Lake.

Our route begins at the iconic Stairway to Heaven trailhead in Vernon, NJ, and follows a 9.3-mile point-to-point stretch of the Appalachian Trail, ending at Greenwood Lake Marina. Expect beautiful ridge views, technical sections, 2,100 ft elevation gain, and a strong group energy moving with purpose.

We will meet at Stairway of Heaven trailhead by 7:45 a.m. for check-in and begin the hike promptly at 8:00 a.m.
Shuttling options or carpool logistics will be discussed prior to the hike.

• Total Time: ~4.5–5.5 hours depending on group pace

Expect moments of silence, joy, and celebration throughout the trail. This is a sacred goodbye and a joyful sendoff.

• Hiking shoes or boots with good grip
• 2L+ of water (hydration is critical in August heat)
• Electrolytes and trail snacks
• Hat, sunscreen, sunglasses
• Lightweight layers (for ridge winds)
• Small daypack
• Optional: a note or symbolic gift for Melanie to carry into her next chapter

Optional Plan: We may gather by the lake after the hike for a light picnic, swim, or simply to rest and reflect. Bring your bathing suit if you’d like to cool off.
