Ancient Philosophy Club — Buddhism: The Dhammapada
Details
Hi folks!
This is our bi-weekly reading group dedicated to ancient philosophy texts. Our goal is to go more deeply into these works as well as gain insights from mutual discussion and exchange.
We typically alternate between western and eastern ancient philosophy.
Pre-reading: The Dhammapada is available here:
Text only: https://readingfaithfully.org/dhammapada-translated-by-bhikkhu-sujato-english-pali-english-free-epub-kindle/
Text + Illustration + Commentary: https://buddhanet.net/pdf_file/dhammapadatxt1.pdf
Video commentaries on every verse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZZiE-EofAE&list=PLF755B81CBBCA7B59
While optional, you are strongly encouraged to read ahead.
Format: On the day, we’ll divide into groups of 2-3 to read and discuss the texts. A guidance sheet with selected passages and discussion prompts will help focus the conversation.
Timing: Groups will meet for 3 x 30mins sessions, then regather to share reflections as a whole.
Social time: Optional hangout afterward for those who want to continue the discussion informally.
Schedule: Every other Monday, 7:00 – 8:30 PM
