Abstact: Muir will present IBM's plan to scale up to fault tolerant computing including the development of codes, chips, and large system design.

Bio: Muir Kumph is a Senior Research Scientist and Manager at IBM Research in Yorktown Heights, New York, where his current focus is reliably scaling quantum systems to fault tolerance. His career spans both leading qubit platforms, trapped ions and superconducting circuits.
He earned his PhD in physics at the University of Innsbruck, where from 2008 to 2015 he designed and built the full experimental stack for trapped-ion physics, including laser systems, RF electronics, ultra-high-vacuum chambers, and microscopic ion traps. He then held a postdoc at the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, working on SCINET, a three-node quantum network of trapped atomic ions.
He joined IBM in 2016 and has led a team as a first-line manager since 2019. Muir has been one of the earliest presenters at the meetup, having presented on Entanglement and its Verification in September 2017.
