Details

Three Enduring Mysteries of the Cape of Good Hope Triangular Issues, 1853-1864
Presentation by Christopher Dorn, aka the “Beryllium Guy”, on Thursday, 10 July 2025 at 6pm ET.
If you think stamps are just square, you haven’t seen the Cape of Good Hope Triangular Issues. Yes, people would cut a square stamp in half to half the postage (bisect), but produced in September 1853, the "Capes" were the world’s first printed triangular stamps. Thanks to the many variations in colour shades, print clarity, and paper condition, the Cape Triangular issues constitute a rich area of philately with unplumbed depths, yet to be fully explored.
Join us on Thursday, 10 July 6pm ET (NY) when Chris will give a new angle on this 179-year-old stamp.
Our meetings are always Free to attend and open to all.
