The Latest Trends in AI for Philately and more... (AI = Artificial "Intelligence") with Tom Droege
Thursday, January 15th, 2026 - 6 pm ET (11 pm BST)
“Artificial intelligence is starting to make a presence in philately. It is neither the all-seeing expert nor the menace that some collectors fear. On the plus side, AI can rapidly identify visual inconsistencies in stamps, compare cancellations, detect forgeries, and surface obscure references in seconds; tasks that once took hours of careful study. On the minus side, it cannot judge postal rates, ink chemistry, usage logic, or historical context—the very soul of the hobby. AI lacks the collector’s instinct, the joy of discovery, and the hard-earned skepticism that comes from handling thousands of real-world examples. When used wisely; however, AI is not a replacement for philatelic expertise but can be a powerful tool that can assist the hobby in ways that were previously unimagined.” – So says AI
Join Tom Droege on Thursday, January 15, at 6:00 PM Eastern, for a witty, grounded look at what AI can do for collectors, what it absolutely can’t do, and why this matters, whether you’re a high-end specialist and own a world-class collection or have never mounted a stamp.
This is a free and open event—all are welcome. Membership is neither required or expected.
A discussion will follow the presentation, with everyone welcome to participate. Closed captioning and Computer language translation are available.
A great way to start the year.
