''“Mr. Farley and Mr. Roosevelt: When Temptation Overcomes!” with James C. Johnston, Jr

You may have heard about the incident in 1933, when James A. Farley , the chairman of the New York State Democratic Committee, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and President Roosevelt’s newly appointed Postmaster General, created a bit of a stir with his mementoes. The story doesn’t end there. Mr. Farley really tried to please his boss by gifting coveted treasures from the National Archives, of which there were only three known to exist ….. what happens next?

ABOUT James C. "Jim" Johnston, Jr.
James C. "Jim" Johnston has been in the Appraisal and Antique business for more than six decades, making him a popular expert. As retired educator, he has had hundreds of children .. in his classrooms. Jim served as selectman in his hometown of Franklin, Massachusetts. After the town adopted its “new” charter in 1978, he then became a Town Councillor. He is a historian and author. Among Johnston's published books and monographs are: Old Franklin [1976], Horace Mann: Angry Iconoclast [1977], A Taste of Old Franklin [1978], Odyssey in the Wilderness [1976], Images of America: Franklin [1993], and The Yankee Fleet: Maritime New England in the Age of Sail [2007].

Johnston has won several awards for scholarship and recognition for his services to the history of Massachusetts including: The Auxillium Latium Award, National Latin Association Award, a Certificate of Commendation presented by The National Association for State and Local History for Extensive Contributions to the History of Franklin, Massachusetts, a Certificate of Appreciation From The Veterans of Foreign Wars for Organizing the Voice of Democracy Contests in Franklin, and many citations from The Great and General Court of Massachusetts for his many civic undertakings.
Johnston has been associated with Johnston Antiques and Rare Coins since 1962. He is a well-known appraiser of antiques, stamps, coins, books, and fine arts. He is also a well-known lecturer and has been consulted by The Smithsonian, the Library at The United States Military Academy at West Point, and production companies who have shown their works on P. B. S.
Johnston has several historical and literary projects ongoing as of this writing and continues as a writer for The Journal of Antiques and Collectibles, The Milford Daily News, The Franklin Observer. and Kelleher’s Stamp Collector’s Quatrerly.

Jim’s wit, charm, and practically endless knowledge of anything old, allows him to make history come alive, mesmerising both experts and novices with the same sentence.
