We will have a presentation providing an update on the state of the integration between OpenStack and Kubernetes, followed by a special guest from Google talking about Istio (the open platform to connect, manage, and secure microservices).

17:30 - 18:00 K8s <3 OpenStack

The team working on the Magnum project in OpenStack has made substantial improvements on the integration between K8s and OpenStack. Bruno will explain the touch points between these two systems, and how they provide a solution for persistent volumes, network policies, ingress controllers, authentication, and access control.

18:00 - 19:00 Istio (open microservices platform)

Istio is now approaching 1.0 and getting ready for production. Craig will talk you through the Istio project, the Google patterns that inspired it, and the customer use cases it's already solving today.

Craig, a fellow Kiwi based in London, leads the Cloud Native advocacy team at Google Cloud. His job is spreading the message of the Kubernetes and Istio platforms, collecting customer feedback on rough edges, and then working with the engineers until they are smoothed!

Craig started his career as a systems administrator and has worked in development, deployment, DevOps, consulting, advisory and management roles.
