What we’re about

We are a group that regularly places 21st-century townball in Newberg, OR. Townball is a game modeled after a forgotten competitor to baseball that originated in 1850s Massachusetts, the main distinctives being that in this game…

  • there are five bases
  • there’s no foul territory, any hit is legal
  • you can steal 1st base (it’s only 42 feet)
  • you can hit up to three pitches before you’re compelled to get on base
  • there’s only one out per inning
  • there’s no dead time, the ball is always live
  • you aren’t required to run in straight lines between the basepaths
  • the batting order can shuffle any order you want after the first round

This game is really accessible no matter your skill level. We’re all about ensuring that, above all, people are having a good time. Thankfully, townball is a game where fun doesn’t come at the cost of dialing down one’s own competitiveness, as you can easily deduce from the game facts listed above.
