SESSION 1. Johnny Winter
Gathering Requirements for your Star Schema: How you can collaboratively design a dimensional model with your business users.

In any Power BI implementation getting the data modelling right is key. But whilst developers might have great technical skills and understand how to build a data model, they may lack the business domain knowledge to ensure that what they deliver is fit for use by analysts and self-service users. On the flip side, business users often know what they want and need, but struggle to explain this in a way that makes it easy for developers to implement. Taking inspiration from 2 techniques; BEAM and Sun Modelling, this session looks to bridge the gap between business and IT by demonstrating an end-to- end process for working with business users to collaboratively design a star schema.

SPEAKER:
Johnny currently works as a consultant for Advancing Analytics. He’s been working with Business Intelligence software since 2007, specialising in the Microsoft data platform since 2016. He’s a self-confessed Business Intelligence geek and in his spare time runs the website and YouTube channel Greyskull Analytics, where he likes to nerd out about all things Power BI.

Let’s Automate! Using the Power Platform for Power BI Requests

Automating business processes is a quick win for organisations. Specifically, automating manual BI processes can allow BI teams to focus on value-add development activities as well as strengthening their approach to Power BI Governance.

In this session, we will learn how to leverage the Power Platform to replace manual processes such as access requests to reports and provisioning a new workspace.
