About us
We are the North East Data Scientists, and we love all things data!
We are an inclusive community which meets four times a year to listen to talks from data innovators, experts, and enthusiasts, as well as to learn about the latest data science tools and technologies with hands-on-workshops!
All our events are free-to-attend, and are a great opportunity to network with like-minded data professionals, software developers, students, engineers, and entrepreneurs. We meet in the TusPark building in Newcastle upon Tyne.
A selection of slides from previous talks are available at: jumpingrivers.github.io/neds-meetup-2022/.
Want to contact the organisational team? Get in touch with us via neds@jumpingrivers.com.
We are sponsored by:
• Jumping Rivers, an analytics company whose passion is data and machine learning.

Talks
Mohammad Reza Sharifi, Graduate Data Solutions Engineer @ Seriös Group
Your path into data & AI: the cloud‑first skills every practitioner needsCloud literacy has become essential for anyone entering Data & AI. In this talk, I’ll share the cloud‑first principles and practical steps that shaped my own journey, and outline a simple, repeatable template that practitioners can use to build enterprise‑ready skills. The goal is to show how cloud fluency accelerates learning, unlocks real opportunities, and forms the foundation of modern data and ML practice.
Arun Niranjan, Staff AI Engineer @ Bud
Acting under uncertainty with pymdpDecision making with perfect knowledge of the world is straightforward. But in reality, we have to make decisions under uncertainty. In this talk, I will cover how to model Agents interacting with the environment as a Partially Observable Markov Decision Process (POMDP) using Active Inference, via the recently released pymdp python package.
