Badminton Drop-In (19+) - No Host

Details

Hi everyone,

please read the information below (including the FAQs) to get acquainted with how this event page will be used for those who want to set up badminton play dates with other members.

Badminton Drop In "Play Dates":
The Intentional Living Social Hub (the Hub) has some members who are interested in meeting up to play drop-in badminton (in public and some private facilities that are accessible to them).

If you are interested in finding members from this group (men or women 19+) to set up days and times to play badminton, you can use this event page.

How do members access the group badminton group chat?
To connect with other group members in the group chat, Click Here.

I don't see a location address for this event so how is this page going to be used?
This event page will repeat each week with the set time just to keep the event page open and active. So people can RSVP throughout the year while setting up specific badminton play dates with members can find players and/or set up times to meetup on alternative dates and times.

How to find suitable players?
I recommend using the discussion section and/or the event chat to let fellow members know the following:

  • Where in city you can or wish to play
  • What level player you are
  • What level players you're looking to connect with
  • What days/times you're able to play
  • If you have a facility in mind, add in any costs to play
  • Please use discernment with persona/private info

Why is the age range for this social set to 19+?
Public drop-in badminton slots are mainly at City of Toronto Community & Rec Centres and the adult age range for their adult drop-in sports programs is 19+. They also have special designated time slots for seniors.

Where are some public badminton drop-in spots to play?
The city of Toronto offers many badminton drop-in programs around the GTA. To find out more, visit the City of Toronto drop-in page and select and enter specific information (ie: your home or work address , age, and sport type).

The website will populate to show you the drop in locations you can check out.

Are there fees to play?
Most public facilities have a fee to play. Usually it's $4.50. As well, some sites lend racquets but you have to call to check which ones (if you don't have your own racquet).

Do you live in the in midtown or downtown area?
If you live in either of these areas, a friend of mine (Ghada) put together a badminton schedule for public facilities in those areas of the city.

Click Here to see the schedule.

Public Drop In Program Capacity Limits & Rotations:
Please note that most of these gyms have capacity limits and the play times vary from gym-to-gym.

Additionally, due to the popularity of the game, most gyms allow players to complete one game before rotating off to allow other players an opportunity to play a game.

Is the Yonge-Eglinton area accessible to you to get to?
If you live in the Yonge-Eglinton area (or if it's relatively accessible to get to), a few people have already expressed an interest to meetup regularly to play at the North Toronto Memorial Community Centre on Thursday evenings - 6:15-7:30pm.

This facility is located at: 200 Eglinton Ave. Rd. (2 blocks west of the Yonge-Eglinton Subway Stn.).

The centre has underground parking and there are some nearby TTC bus stops as well (near Eglinton and Lascelles).

North Toronto Memorial Community Centre Drop-in Schedule:
Tuesday: 7:15-8:15pm
Thursday: 6:15-7:30pm
Saturday: 5:00-6:15pm
Sunday: 2:30-3:45pm

What if a member is more comfortable teaming up to play badminton with women only or men only (or with those of a certain age range)?
If you would like to join a women or men only badminton drop in (with people of a certain age range), please let me know. We can add another badminton event page to accommodate.

Also, there is an affiliated Meetup group called Women Adventure & Leisure where I will be setting up a similar page for those 30+.

Additional Info:
I will add more information to this description section related to private badminton drops spots, badminton specific facilities like Epic Sports, etc.

For those looking for other sports socials, you may want to check out: Toronto Jam Sports. As well, the City of Toronto has many drop-in sports programs (some free, such as open swimming). Check out the link above.

Also, as spring comes, we'll include tennis details.

If you have any suggestions or concerns, please let me know either in the discussion or event chat or via DM. See you on the court!

With Gratitude,
Paris
