Brasstown Bald via the Arkaquah Trail; Out & Back

Details
One of three trails that leads to Brasstown Bald, the highest peak in GA.
We start near Track Rock Gap and head up the Arkaquah Trail to the observation tower at Brasstown Bald. It's not just one spectacular view on this hike; it's a great view all along the ridge line.
The weather forecast for Saturday looks bright and sunny with temperatures ranging from 76F to 86F
Total Hike Distance: Approx 12 miles
Total Hike Elevation: Approx 3,700'
Here's the AllTrails map:
NOT A BEGINNERS' HIKE. This is a strenuous hike, or at least parts of it are, by all accounts. You may not want to sign up if you haven't completed 10+ mile hikes with significant elevation gains, but I've never heard any of the Hike Georgia regulars say they didn't like this hike.
We will take a lunch break at the top, and then we backtrack. Bring a light lunch and/or some energy snacks. Make sure to bring plenty of fluids and stay hydrated. Average pace would be between 2.5mph to 3mph. We usually have a faster group and a slower group on my hikes, but we all look out for each other.
If you don't have a navigation app (AllTrails, etc.) on your cell phone, I suggest you stay in close proximity to someone who does, but this trail is well marked and there are usually a good number of hikers out there on the weekends.
Arkaquah Trailhead is right before Track Rock Gap Petroglyph Site. Parking may be limited.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
- Hike Georgia assumes no liability for Meetup events.
- Dogs are permitted on this hike, but should be kept on a leash.
- I recommend that you bring hiking poles, unless you know you don't want them.
- I encourage carpooling if it works for you, but I'm unable to run a carpool this time. Meeting at Walmart in Dahlonega is a good idea for carpoolers. Parking can be tight at the T/H.
