***LIFEJACKETS REQUIRED TO BE WORN AND FASTENED AT ALL TIMES WHILE ON THE WATER***

Reposting Gwen‘s trip. We will be camping at Fort McCallister State Park, many of you already have campsites for this if you do not please secure that ASAP.
This is now an exploratory trip, as Annette and I have never done these waters before.

Here's the proposed paddling schedule for the weekend:

Friday: Ogeechee - Morgans Bridge to Kings Landing

This is a 15 mile paddle. We will need to time it to finish paddling before tide turns and starts to come in. Based on current tide estimates that will be around 5 pm - will need to check and adjust when closer. Tide is just an issue for approximately last 5 miles and I'm hoping paddling with the tide going out will help us at the end of a long paddle. This river does require good boat control.

Saturday: Canoochee River - exploratory - leaders haven't paddled this before.
Probably and 8-10 mile section. This will require getting a day use pass ($5 I think) for Ft Stewart at Home - Fort Stewart - iSportsman but please wait to do this until closer to make sure things still look good for trip- You do need to create an account and pass a test to be able to order the pass. I recommend doing the test at least a couple of weeks ahead of trip as it's not straightforward. Once you have passed, you can go in at any time and order the pass. You will need to bring a printed copy with you to get in at the gate.

Sunday: Ebeneezer Creek.
We'll pack up and leave campground at 9 and drive to Tommy Long Landing which is a 45 minute drive. We'll put in on Ebenezer Creek and probably paddle 3-4 hours. This is an out and back paddle so flexible. No perceivable current so the paddling is pretty easy. No shuttle required.

Description of Rivers

The Ogeechee River is a blackwater stream and one of Georgia’s few remaining free flowing rivers. The Ogeechee River is the dominant waterbody in the basin, while its principal tributary, the Canoochee River, drains approximately 1,400 square miles and is the only other major river in the basin.

Can't find a description of Canoochee but it looks beautiful.

Ebenezer Creek has been called "Georgia's best example of a blackwater stream ecosystem.” The swamps boarding the creek contain excellent examples of water tupelo and virgin bald cypress bottomlands. Many other aquatic plants such as parrot feather, pennywort, carnivorous bladderwort, tiny duckweed, and the floating mosquito fern occur in abundance. The bald cypress and tupelo that line the creek are hosts to such epiphytic plants as Spanish moss, resurrection fern, the uncommon green fly orchid and the parasitic American mistletoe.
