What better setting to explore America’s most opulent era than a preserved Vanderbilt residence filled with original artwork, furniture, and a 17th-century Italian library? It's time to step inside a Gilded Age mansion for an evening where history, architecture, and rich storytelling collide.
Join New York Adventure Club for a captivating in-person lecture inside the House of the Redeemer's Upper East Side mansion. Built in 1916 for Edith Shepard Fabbri — great-granddaughter of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt — the House of the Redeemer is one of Manhattan’s most intact Gilded Age homes with original furnishings, artwork, and a transported 1600s Italian library.
Led by licensed NYC tour guide Ginny Poleman, this lecture — unpacking the real-life people, places, and power struggles that defined New York City’s Gilded Age and how they compare to their portrayal on HBO's The Gilded Age — will include:
- An illustrated 60-minute talk exploring the cultural and social forces that shaped New York’s Gilded Age, as well as the culminating events of each season
- Insights into real-life figures and families who influenced everything from high society scandals to modern portrayals in the hit show
- Context around the clash of old vs. new money, the rise of industry, and the changing face of the city
- Historic visuals and photographs that bring the opulence and ambition of the era into full view
- A meet & greet with the lecturer after the talk concludes
- An intimate wine reception before the lecture, offering a chance to mingle before the evening’s discussion begins
Your ticket includes access to both the wine reception and the lecture.
*The front door will be locked once the wine reception concludes shortly before 6:45pm — latecomers will not be able to enter
**An elevator is available if the lecture takes place in the second floor library
