"Well, here's another nice mess you've gotten me into." -Oliver Hardy
Slapstick comedy. Timeless chemistry. And a duo so iconic, they’ve been making audiences laugh for nearly a century. But how did a mild-mannered Brit and a brash American become the most beloved comedy team in Hollywood history? From pratfalls to punchlines, get ready to rediscover the magic of Laurel & Hardy like never before.
Join New York Adventure Club as we explore the storied partnership of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, two comedic geniuses whose slapstick brilliance shaped early cinema and continue to inspire laughter to this day.
Led by music historian and theater director Jamie Hayes, our unique virtual experience will include:
- A look at Laurel and Hardy’s early lives — how an Englishman and an American came together by chance
- An overview of their rise during the silent‑film era and transition into sound
- A survey of their most iconic films — shorts and features alike — and what made their comedy styles work so brilliantly
- A discussion surrounding their off‑screen friendship — loyalty, challenges, and how their bond shaped their performances
- A screening of clips from their funniest moments, pivotal to telling their story — physical gags, timing, and visual humor that show why their comedy still resonates
Afterward, we’ll have a Q&A with Jamie — any and all questions are welcomed and encouraged!
