Built by William the Conquerer nearly 1000 years ago, London's Windsor Castle is the world’s oldest continually inhabited castle; and while it's been used by the Royal Family as a refuge and a prison, it's above all been their family home. What was the original purpose of this iconic building and how has it evolved over the centuries? It's time to explore one of the world's most instantly recognizable silhouette like never before.

Join New York Adventure Club as we explore the history of the sprawling 13-acre Windsor Castle, and the royal stories associated with this fortress-turned-home guarding the River Thames in London.

Led by award winning London Blue Badge Tourist Guide Nick Salmond, this unique virtual experience will include:

  • The history of the creation of Windsor Castle, from why it stands where it does and who built it
  • How the use of the castle evolved and its role in the creation of the Magna Carta in 1215
  • A look at the major changes made to the castle by Monarchs over the centuries, including Henry III, Charles II and George IV
  • Queen Victoria’s love for Windsor and her retreat to the castle after the death of her husband
  • How Queen Elizabeth used the castle including the story behind the disaster that hit the castle in 1992 when fire destroyed part of her beloved home, as well as her isolation at Windsor during the 2020 Covid crisis
  • The history of St George’s Chapel, built in the grounds of the castle and where 10 Kings and 1 Queen of England are buried

Afterward, we'll have a Q&A session with Nick — any and all questions are welcomed and encouraged!
