At the height of the Cold War and the Civil Rights movement, President John F. Kennedy's brief time in office carried the weight of nuclear brinkmanship, moral leadership, and a country racing toward the future. What did it mean for one man and one administration to shoulder such immense hope and fear all at once? With the help of a presidential historian, it’s time to delve into JFK’s life and legacy — from soaring ambition to sudden tragedy that turned a brief presidency into legend.

Join New York Adventure Club as we take a fresh look at the life, presidency, and lasting impact of John F. Kennedy — from his rise to the White House to the crises and turning points that defined his time in office and left a profound mark on the nation.

Led by presidential historian Louis L. Picone, our unique experience will include:

  • Privileged beginnings and family expectations — how being born into a wealthy, politically ambitious family shaped JFK’s worldview and set him on a path toward public service

  • Shaped by war: the PT-109 story — a look at his harrowing World War II experience, how he led his crew to safety, and the ways this episode forged his character and public reputation

  • The rise of a modern political figure — a discussion around Kennedy’s ascent from Congress to the Oval Office, and how his youth, charisma, and command of television helped redefine American politics

  • A presidency defined by crisis and aspiration — an examination of key moments of his administration, from the Bay of Pigs and Cuban Missile Crisis to civil rights flashpoints and the bold pledge to land a man on the Moon

  • A lasting impact that still captivates — an exploration of how his assassination, iconic speeches, and the “Camelot” mystique have continued to influence American memory and political culture

Afterward, we'll have a Q&A with Louis — any and all questions are welcomed and encouraged!
