Over a millennium before the rise of Classical Greece, a powerful civilization ruled the island of Crete — building vast palaces, mastering the seas, and giving rise to legends that still captivate our imagination. From blood-soaked tales of the Minotaur to the enduring mystery of the lost city of Atlantis, the Minoans left behind a world as breathtaking as it was enigmatic. It's time to step into the realm of Europe’s first great civilization, where beauty, power, and myth were one and the same.

Join New York Adventure Club as we explore the remarkable world of the ancient Minoans — a Bronze Age civilization whose refined aesthetic, maritime dominance, and symbolic traditions made them a cornerstone of the ancient Aegean world.

Led by French art historian and archaeologist Camille Brillaux, our digital deep dive exploring Minoan art and culture will include:

  • A virtual tour of the legendary Palace of Knossos, the mythical home of King Minos, the Minotaur, and Daedalus’ labyrinth
  • A detailed look at Minoan artistry, from vivid frescoes and intricate jewelry to finely crafted pottery and seal carvings
  • A discussion around women and religion in Minoan society, including sacred imagery like bull’s horns and the enigmatic “Mistress of Animals”
  • An overview of Minoan writing systems, featuring the undeciphered Linear A script, Cretan hieroglyphics, and the famous Phaistos Disc
  • An examination of the civilization’s mysterious collapse, and how it may have inspired Plato’s tale of the lost city of Atlantis

Afterward, we'll have a Q&A with Camille — any and all questions are welcomed and encouraged!
