At the height of the American Gilded Age, over 450 heiresses married into European aristocracy, swapping their crisp, new dollars for moth-bitten, old titles. It was high-level business held at the highest levels of society: an exchange of badly needed money for restoring crumbling ancestral properties and status that money was not supposed to be able to buy. It's time to uncover the incredible stories behind the "transatlantic marriage bureau" like never before.
Join New York Adventure Club as we relive the astonishing, often raucous, and always entertaining stories behind the most extraordinary of these couples, and the grand properties that were central to their tale.
Led by Mark Meredith — founder of HouseHistree.com — our virtual rollercoaster ride through the Gilded Age will include:
- An overview of the characters, relationships, and family backgrounds of the principal protagonists, including a look into the history behind the earliest transatlantic marriages
- An intimate look into the surprising and lesser-known private lives of those involved, and stories that some of their families would still prefer were kept quiet today
- The history behind some of Europe's best loved architectural gems that owe their existence to their fairy-dollar godmothers from across the pond
- A deep dive into a selection of lavish European castles, estates, and palaces that relate to these marriages, including the 187-room Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire; a pink marble palace in Paris; and, an epic Scottish castle that houses one of the most valuable American collections of art
- Rare and carefully selected photos of ravishing heiresses, irate parents, rakish playboys and the stunning interiors and exteriors of the sprawling estates they called home on both sides of the Atlantic
Afterward, we’ll have a Q&A with Mark — any and all questions are welcomed and encouraged!

About Mark
Mark grew up and was educated in the UK at Stowe School – where it would be hard not to gain a respect for eye-opening architecture – before working for twenty years in the building industry. However, his real passion has always been history, and particularly US history and the stories, legends, and people behind houses. He is an accredited lecturer in both the United States and Europe and the founder of [HouseHistree.com](https://www.househistree.com/).
