While the United States is noted for the architecture of its great cities, its small towns also have fascinating stories to tell. What are some of the most unique structures in each state, and how have they defined the American aesthetic? From the earliest days of European settlements and traditional architecture of the native peoples, to the development of new design concepts and technologies, it's time to explore the outsized architectural influence of towns across the nation.
Join New York Adventure Club for a three-part series on the architecture of 50 towns in 50 states, where we'll examine the settlements and structures that have shaped American reality and culture. In Part One: Eastern Seaboard, we'll focus on historic towns and small cities along the U.S. East Coast.
Led by architectural historian David V. Griffin of Landmark Branding, this digital showcase featuring a selection of unique structures will include:
- A look at New Canaan, CT, and the development of the Postwar U.S. suburb
- The Moravian Community of Old Salem, NC
- The gardens and allées of Savannah, GA
- Structures from around St. Augustine, FL, the oldest continuous European settlement in the U.S.
- An in-depth look at each town's construction, context, and current status, with a focus on how culture and innovation drive architectural symbolism
