While the United States is noted for the architecture of its great cities, its small towns also have fascinating stories to tell. What are some of the most unique structures in each state, and how have they defined the American aesthetic? From the earliest days of European settlements and traditional architecture of the native peoples, to the development of new design concepts and technologies, it's time to explore the outsized architectural influence of towns across the nation.

Join New York Adventure Club for a three-part series on the architecture of 50 towns in 50 states, where we'll examine the settlements and structures that have shaped American reality and culture. In Part Two: Mighty Mississippi, we'll focus on towns and small cities throughout the Great Lakes and Mississippi Basin regions.

Led by David V. Griffin, architectural historian of Landmark Branding, this digital showcase featuring a selection of unique structures will include:

  • A look at Columbus, IN, a collection of Utopian corporate modernism
  • A visit to Pleasant Hill, KY, a beautifully preserved Shaker Colony
  • Structures in Mason City, IA, designed by Walter Burley Griffin and Frank Lloyd Wright
  • The gardens and canals of Avery Island, LA
  • An in-depth look at each town's construction, context, and current status, with a focus on how culture and innovation drive architectural symbolism

Afterward, we'll have a Q&A with David — any and all questions are welcomed and encouraged!
