In the years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001 unfolded, artists from all walks of life have created moving artwork in hopes of helping a bruised nation heal. This event explores two decades worth of thoughtful memorials and artworks connected to 9/11, created to honor its many victims, teach our children, and help us shape a safer future.
Join New York Adventure Club on the eve of the 20th Anniversary of September 11, 2001 for a virtual event that honors New York City's darkest day while offering hope for a better tomorrow.
Led by Sylvia Laudien-Meo — art historian, museum educator, and NYC tour guide — this virtual art journey through a wide range of touching and inspirational artworks will include:
-A look at some of the immediate and temporary artistic responses to the 9/11 attacks
-A discussion of some artworks that have been turned into memorials honoring the fateful day
-A contemplation of some of the most meaningful ingredients of memorials , such as nature
-An examination of Martha Cooper’s photographs showcasing New York City street art immediately following 9/11, as well as some of the permanent street art murals
-An overview of the carefully planned memorials throughout the NYC area
-An analysis of fine art pieces by leading artists like Gerhard Richter, Eric Fischl, and Spencer Finch
Afterward, we'll have a Q&A with Sylvia — any and all questions about these 9/11-related artworks are welcomed and encouraged.
