Join New York Adventure Club as we hit the streets to explore the history, engineering, and cultural significance of New York City's iconic wooden water towers, revealing why these overlooked structures remain one of the city's most enduring symbols.
Led by licensed NYC tour guide and water tower researcher Abby Ross, our unique experience will include:
- A walk along the High Line to observe a variety of wooden water towers while learning how they work, why they became essential to New York City's growth, and why they continue to define its skyline today
- An exploration of water towers in art and architecture, revealing how these familiar structures have inspired artists, influenced design, and evolved into enduring symbols of New York City
- A look at surprising stories and unexpected uses, from creative adaptations to the beloved New York visitor who became an unlikely water tower enthusiast
- An overview of the craftsmanship, maintenance, and sustainability behind wooden water towers, including how they're built, cared for, and preserved for future generations

About Abby
Abby Ross is a licensed New York City tour guide, water tower researcher, and founder of NYC Water Tower Tours. A New York City resident for more than 15 years, her fascination with the city's iconic wooden water towers has grown into years of independent research exploring their history, engineering, artistry, and cultural significance. A member of the Guide Association of New York, Abby has also developed training programs for the Guggenheim Museum, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and hundreds of New York City taxi drivers. Through her tours, she invites guests to slow down, look up, and discover the remarkable stories hiding in plain sight.
