How did apartment living go from an unthinkable compromise to the height of urban prestige? It's time to discover how the Upper West Side became the proving ground for a housing revolution that forever changed urban life.

Join New York Adventure Club as we hit the streets of the Upper West Side to explore some of New York City's most iconic luxury apartment buildings, which redefined what it meant to call Manhattan home.

Led by NYC Tour Guide, urban historian, and expert storyteller Amy Cook, our unique experience will include:

• A look at the Upper West Side's grand apartment houses, including the San Remo, Dorilton, Ansonia, Apthorp, Majestic, and the filming location featured in Only Murders in the Building
• An overview of the evolution of apartment living, from early French flats and residential hotels to cooperatives, along with the architects and zoning laws that transformed residential design
• A visit to the Dakota, and why it forever changed apartment living in Manhattan
• Stories of the famous and infamous residents who helped shape the colorful legacies of these architectural icons
• Fun facts about the extraordinary amenities once used to entice residents — from bowling alleys and fresh egg delivery to electric car charging, rotating art collections, and even the legendary "Bathhouse Betty"

**This tour will conclude at 86th Street and Broadway, steps away from the 1 train.
***This experience does not go inside any of the apartment buildings.

Whether you are visiting, or reside here without yet fully *living* here, Amy can share what it’s like to be a real New Yorker. She has been in Brooklyn for over 25 years and loves to share stories of the ever changing city. Insatiably curious, Amy is always absorbing new information and experiences to enrich her tours. Having studied history and urban planning, she loves New York City’s past, and is also mindful of the way in which New York today is constantly evolving. Fifth Avenue, Lower Manhattan, the High Line and Park Slope are among many excellent places to explore with Amy’s help. As an avid birder, NYC Certified Volunteer Citizen Tree Pruner and former Master Gardener, Central and Prospect Parks are favorite haunts. Amy gave her first tours at a winery near Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello and has worked in restaurants, so food and libations sneak into just about every talk. She’s dined in the once secret 21 Club wine cellar, been backstage at multiple Broadway shows, marched in the Tartan Day Parade, watched the Macy’s Day Parade from Snoopy’s eye level, and danced tango on the Coney Island Boardwalk.
