NextGen Monthly Bird Outing - Sky Meadows State Park + Brewery Visit

Starting Saturday, May 2nd NextGen will be hosting monthly bird outings on the first Saturday of the month! Locations and guides will vary per month.

For our October monthly walk, we will visit Sky Meadows State Park in Fauquier County, VA. This park is situated on the eastern edge of the Appalachian Highlands, in the visually distinct Blue Ridge Mountains. We can expect to see foliage starting to change as summer comes to an end. We will likely also see migrating birds, in addition to year-round residenst.

Please come prepared to hike. Be prepared for inclines, declines, and uneven terrain. Hiking boots or shoes with similar support are highly recommended. It is also recommended to bring water and protection from the sun.

Following the event, we will offer to meet folks at Bear Chase Brewery, which is a short drive north along the mountains, for a few hours of libations and conversation. The address is: 33665 Bear Chase Ln, Bluemont, VA 20135. The website is: https://bearchasebrew.com/.

Please note that Sky Meadows State Park requires a $10 fee to enter. If you do not have a state park pass, it is recommended to bring cash as the cell service at the entrance is not great and it can be difficult to pay online if there is no one attending the entrance.

We will meet in the parking lot close to the visitor center, near the bus parking spots close to the entrance to the parking lot. Bear left after passing the contact station at the entrance to the park that is off of Edmonds Lane, and you will reach the visitor center parking lot.
