Minh Nguyen - Observability, OpenTelemetry and NGINX
Observability and OpenTelemetry have raised awareness of distributed tracing. But what is it, and what is it good for? We'll investigate the distributed trace from inception to analysis. We'll deconstruct it across its parts, describing the importance of trace and spans. We'll look at timelines, discussing some of the potential data impacts that can leave false clues. We'll drill into the parts, including underlying metadata and semantic conventions, and learn how the supporting evidence of logs and metrics can help us identify the culprit.
We'll also look at the impact of traces in NGINX, using the open source NGINX OTel module. You'll leave knowing why distributed tracing is important and what makes OpenTelemetry the choice for tracing.
Kraipop Pengkaew – Integrating NGINX Gateway Fabric into Kubernetes Cluster
NGINX Gateway Fabric is an opensource project that provides an implementation of the Gateway API using NGINX as the data plane. During this talk we'll look over the Gateway API models, delve into the architecture and discuss our design principles (and why they matter).
The goal of this project is to implement the core Gateway APIs -- Gateway, GatewayClass, HTTPRoute, TCPRoute, TLSRoute, and UDPRoute -- to configure an HTTP or TCP/UDP load balancer, reverse-proxy, or API gateway for applications running on Kubernetes.
We'll also dive into a use case example, to show the power of the Gateway.
