Monologues with Sotaque - stories written and performed by non-native Portuguese speakers.

Inspired by our previous experience, we are ready for something new.

In the past, we explored monologues in English, even though most of us were not native speakers. Now it’s time for the next step.

This time we do it in Portuguese.

Trust us. Trust the process.
We will make you falar and representar.

If you're a foreigner and you are able to get away with speaking a little Portuguese, join us. This is a space where we celebrate mistakes, accents, diversity, and interculturality.

The goal is to create a short monologue written by you (or created collectively with the group) and eventually perform it. The final performance will feature non-native Portuguese speakers telling their stories in Portuguese — with all the accents included.

And here is an important rule:
We will not correct your mistakes.
Instead, we will treat them as the main ingredient of the experience.

This group is for people who speak Portuguese or want to speak it. You only need basic Portuguese to participate. The focus is expression, creativity, and confidence — not perfection.

Native speakers are welcome too. We promise we won’t kick you out.

Facilitators:

  1. Joana, a Portuguese teacher, with us in the team. Her role is not to correct every sentence, but to help spark ideas, suggest themes, and support the creative process. If you want help improving your Portuguese, she’ll be there to answer questions.

Joana also has experience in performance and has participated in our previous classes and shows as an actor.

  1. Agita is an experienced monologues teacher who loves performing and creating spaces where mistakes are not only accepted but embraced. Passionate about storytelling and experimentation on stage, she believes that imperfections often lead to the most honest and memorable performances. Currently learning Portuguese herself, Agita knows the vulnerability of speaking in a new language firsthand. In fact, the very first poem she wrote in Portuguese became the spark and inspiration for creating this course.

Your accent is not a problem — it’s the point.
