🄾 VERMONT FIVE PATCH CHALLENGE — MOUNTAIN #4! 🄾

Hiker Babes Take Mount Abraham Turtle Style
Five mountains. Five Vermont 4,000-footers. One patch waiting at the finish! ā›°ļø

We’re heading to Mount Abraham for the fourth mountain in our Vermont Five series!

Expect a steady climb through the forest, a rocky summit push, and—if the skies cooperate—beautiful views across the Green Mountains, Champlain Valley, and Adirondacks.

🄾 THE PLAN
We’ll follow the Battell Trail uphill, join the Long Trail heading north near Battell Shelter, and continue to Mount Abraham’s 4,006-foot summit. We’ll return the same way.

• Distance: Approximately 5.5 miles round trip
• Elevation gain: Approximately 2,500 feet
• Route: Out and back
• Difficulty: Hard
• Timing: Plan for a full hiking day, with time for breaks and changing conditions.

The upper section includes steep, rocky terrain and scrambling. Participants should be comfortable with sustained climbing, uneven footing, and mountain hiking in cold weather.

🐢 TURTLE PACE — PLEASE READ
This is a supportive group hike at approximately 1–1.5 mph, with a slower pace where the terrain or conditions require it.
We hike together, take breaks together, and encourage one another along the way. Faster hikers are welcome, but you must be willing to slow down and stay with the group. Please sign up only if you can commit to this pace.

ā„ļø LATE-SEASON CONDITIONS & WHAT TO BRING
Our November–December series can bring snow, ice, strong winds, and short daylight hours—even when the trailhead feels like fall.
Please bring:
• Sturdy waterproof hiking boots
• Microspikes; additional traction or snowshoes may be needed depending on conditions
• Warm layers, an insulating jacket, and a windproof/waterproof shell
• Hat, gloves, and spare socks
• At least two liters of water, protected from freezing
• Lunch and plenty of snacks
• Headlamp with spare batteries
• Trekking poles
• Your Ten Essentials

We’ll confirm weather, trailhead access, and gear needs before the hike. The final portion of the parking access road is not maintained in winter. If conditions make the summit unsafe, we’ll turn around.

At the summit, we’ll stay on the marked trail and rocks to protect Mount Abraham’s fragile alpine plants.
