Hike Little Bradley Falls, Big Bradley Falls Overlook

Details

Let's explore the waterfall(s) of Saluda, NC with some challenging but manageable terrain and swimming hole.

Little Bradley Falls Trail is classified Moderate, 1.8 miles round trip, 184 feet of elevation gain with 3 stream crossings, 2 felled trees to navigate around and one rock slide crossing. At the end of the trail is a beautiful 3 tiered waterfall with swimming hole. Wear shoes that can get wet and your bathing suit if you want to swim in the cold but refreshing water. All Trails says average hike time 41 minutes but we'll go at a safe speed. 30 minutes at the falls for swimming, climbing, pictures, etc.

Big Bradley Falls Trail is classified Moderate, 2.1 miles round trip, 295 feet of elevation gain, has a deep stream crossing/swimming hole (or rock scramble if you are up for that) and ends in a beautiful overlook of Big Bradley Falls. All Trails says average hike time 55 min but we'll go at a safe speed and spend some time at the overlook for pics and scenery. Binocs are recommended for this hike because the falls are across a broad ravine.

The two trailheads are across the street from each other so why not do both! You will want to bring lunch as there is nothing out there to satisfy hunger. Recommend 2 liters of water, hat, sunglasses, UV protection and a towel to dry off before getting back into your car. No bathrooms at the trailheads - just the woods! I wear TEVA sandals with hiking soles for these 2 trails and I use one hiking pole for balance. Please critically assess your fitness and ability for these two hikes. They are Moderate and require balance, awkward postures, problem solving, and courage.

Optional trip into downtown Saluda afterward. There are a few restaurants there and some old-fashioned mercantile shops for specialty groceries, nostalgia and icecream.

If anyone is a waterfall hound, pick up Melrose Falls off 176 in Tryon on your way home. 1.1 miles, 131 ft elevation gain to the cliff overlook.

A little rain won't hurt but forecast of thunderstorms would cancel this trip. I recommend car pooling. If anyone wants to meet at the Lake Bowen / Anchor Park at 9:00 am to drop a car, I have room for 3.
