"If You Are The One" is a popular Chinese blind-dating TV show which has been shown on Jiangsu TV since 2010. As what you might expect, 24 beautiful ladies will participate in this show every week, seeking their Prince Charming. The male guests have to try their best to win the heart of the girls if they want to get rid of single. This week, we're going to watch this TV show together. You'll learn more about Chinese peoples' values about family, love, marriage.

What's "Learning Mandarin from TV Show" all about?

Learning Mandarin from TV show is a new way our club use to engage conversation. This concept is mainly about watching Chinese TV shows together with Chinese members to help you understand not only the Chinese language, but also Chinese peoples' real life. Through this process, both foreigners and Chinese members can know more about difference cultures by sharing their opinions with each other. It'll help us a lot in the learning process.

Can we learn a language by watching TV shows?

Of course, we can. Many people in my hometown learned Cantonese by watching Cartoons and TV shows from TVB channel (a channel in Cantonese). Some foreign friends have been watching Chinese TV shows and they said they had learned a lot about Chinese cultures and values. As for me, the American TV shows have helped me a lot in improving my English in terms of pronunciation, vocabulary, and American cultures.

How can we benefit from this Activity?

You'll have an opportunity to immerse yourself in a Mandarin-based environment every Thursday night. By watching TV shows of various themes, you'll get to know more about Chinese food, Chinese entertainment industry, Chinese peoples' values about love/marriage, and know what's the talk of town in Chinese people's daily life. Our Chinese members will watch them with you. Feel free to share your ideas with them and ask them for help.
