Eifel Hike in Germany - Rocky Ridges near Altenahr

Join us for another unforgettable hike through the stunning landscapes of the Eifel region in Germany! This time we will start near the rocky ridges of Altenahr. This isn't your average walk in the woods - expect steep sections, exposed rocky edges, and some light scrambling where hands and feet will be needed. We’ll take in dramatic views, navigate narrow paths, and challenge ourselves on terrain that’s maybe a bit more climb than hike at times. Good shoes, a head for heights, and a decent level of fitness will definitely come in handy.

The journey
Distance: ~12km of diverse landscapes. This may seem short, but the terrain will slow us down in some places.
Elevation: ~350 m
Terrain: Steep hills, rocky but mostly well-maintained paths, with the occasional bit of steep climbs and cliffs.
Duration: ~6.0 hours (including breaks, excluding dinner)

📍Meeting Point, schedule & travel info
We will be driving 2 hours into Germany and have 3 cars with room for 11 people in total.
We will split the cost for gas, it will be 15 euros a person.
The schedule for now:
10:00 - Meeting Point Nijmegen: Nijmegen Central Station at the Kiss & Ride
12:00-18:00 Hike around Altenahr
18:00 - Have dinner somewhere around Altenahr
19:30 - Drive back to Nijmegen
21:30 - 22:00 Back at meeting point

What to Bring

• A valid ID card or passport because we will go into Germany
• 2L+ water bottle
• Packed lunch and enough snacks for the day
• A way to pay in possible stops, restaurants, etc
• Sunscreen & sunglasses
• Weather-appropriate clothing
• Comfortable walking shoes
