Scenic Forest Hike Nijmegen - Groesbeek (32 km)

Ready for a hiking challenge? We’re heading out for a ~32 km round-trip hike from Nijmegen Heyendaal train station to the German border and back, for some beautiful nature, some good conversations and a nice way to meet new people!

32 km? Yeah it is somewhat more than we usually do, but that is because this is also the final practice hike before the PLN charity event. But you’re absolutely welcome to join only this hike even if you don't join the PLN fundraiser. Come for the distance, the challenge, or just the fun of hiking together.

What to expect
📍Distance: ~32 km
⛰️Terrain: a bit of elevation (160m), mixed paths and roads but a lot of nice forrest paths
🚶‍♂️Pace: steady but social
☕Breaks: 2 short breaks + 1 longer stop at a small cafe to enjoy some well deserved food and rest

⏱️11:15 Depart at train station Nijmegen Heyendaal (meetup in front of the steps)
🏁20:30-22:00 Back at Nijmegen Heyendaal (estimate depending on our pace and breaks, please keep your schedule flexible just in case)

❤️‍🩹The brother and mother of one of my best friends have been diagnosed with PLN, a genetic heart condition. This disease still has no cure and crucial research is at risk of slowing down as international funding becomes uncertain due to the changed political climate. That's why we are trying to raise funds, so this very important research can continue.

Preparation
🥾This is a solid distance, so some endurance and good shoes are needed. You don’t need to be really fast, just prepared and up for the challenge. Also see the other hikes if you wanna build up the kilometers.
🥪Bring water, snacks, weather-appropriate clothing, some determination and your ID (we might cross the German border)

Event Policies
⚠️ Disclaimer: Participants are responsible for their own safety. Please stay with the group and respect nature at all times.
⚠️ Cancellation: The event will be canceled in case of severe weather conditions (you’ll be notified in advance). A refund is not possible because this is a fundraiser, the money goes directly to a good cause. But I will try to reschedule a worthy replacement event :-)
⚠️ No-show might result in ban: Marking yourself as "going" takes a spot away from others for limited capacity events like this. If you are marked as going but don't show up, you might be banned from the Nijmegen Explore & More group
