Dickens Festival 2025

Step into a living Dickens novel at the Deventer Dickens Festival 2025, happening December 13–14, when the historic Bergkwartier becomes a vibrant 19th-century English town. Over 950 costumed locals bring characters like Scrooge, Oliver Twist, and Tiny Tim to life, while carolers sing, chestnuts roast, and Queen Victoria rides by in a carriage. Started in 1991 by one woman’s passion, it’s now the world’s largest Dickens festival, drawing over 125,000 visitors. Tickets are €6 (kids under 7 free), but expect a wait—up to 2 hours—as you queue on Keizerstraat to enter this magical, nostalgic world.
