Around 7:30 we will have two talks:

Using Nix in a Cluster Environment

by Kevin Cox

Cluster environments like Mesos provide a lot of advantages however they require a very consistent environment across the machines. Any difference in software, hardware or configuration can cause problems if not managed carefully.

In this talk we will explore how Nix and NixOps can be used to create a consistent environment for easy development, effective testing and reliable production deployments in cluster environments.

Software Dependencies - The Root of All Evil

by Tomasz Czyż

We all know dependency hell, it exists on so many levels (language libraries, operating system packages, services and components etc). It's growing, every new system like Windows, Debian, Ubuntu, every new language ecosystem like JavaScript, Python, Haskell, Java adds more and more on top making more complicated and complex.
A lot of us is trying to fight with it on different fronts sometimes reinventing a lot of wheels (and making same errors) or just trying to mask the problem rather then solve the core of it. Either we don't believe the problem is fixable or we do not fully understand the consequences of having bad dependency management.

Let's try to discover what hidden problems can be triggered by dependency hell and how we can address some of them and how we can attack the root software dependency problem issue with NixOS to make it more manageable and at least little more sane.
