Learn clamming, then head to Tices Shoals

Details

Did you ever want to learn how to catch and eat those yummy Jersey clams?

Andy will be at the put in with his dog River, willing to teach any interested what equipment youll need and how to clam. and if your brave enough, hop in and give it a shot.

when your done, high tide is at 10:15 am which makes it the perfect opportunity to kayak up the bay side to visit Tice shoals and back, giving you the tidal flow with you in both directions.

FYI: if you wish to keep the clams you find, a clamming license is 10$ per year and you can catch up to 150 clams a day. Nj clamming license (http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/marinelicenses.htm)

Shaped by storms and tides, Island beach State Park is a narrow barrier island stretching 10 miles between the Atlantic Ocean and Barnegat Bay. It has the largest Osprey colony in the state as well as Peregrine falcons, wading birds and other migrating waterfowl.
We will meet at Area 21 inside Island Beach State Park (Latitude: 39.808542 Longitude: -74.093581) for a casual paddle north along the bay shore of the park. Then onward north to Tice Shoals party capital of the jersey shore.

Anyone entering the park at Fisherman's Walkway from Tices Shoal will pay a $3 walk-in fee (free for children under 3-years-old) while lifeguards are on duty. Access to the park by boat is only permitted at that location.

Bring water, food/snacks for lunch, bug spray, suntan lotion, cameras, etc.

Unless there are strong winds which can make the water a bit choppy; this is usually a very easy, and relaxed paddle.
Trip participation needs to be limited to 20, due to the limited number of parking spots in the area.
Park fee for NJ residents 10$ , $20 for Non-NJ residents).
