ADK NJR 2025 Spring Membership Zoom Meeting
HIKING & WILDERNESS SAFETY

Wednesday May 14th, 2025 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm
Scott Fitterman is a search and rescue officer and instructor, volunteer EMT, wilderness first responder and wilderness EMT instructor, public safety diver, National Park Services technical rope rescue graduate, Catskill 35er, and scout leader who leads week-long treks in the backcountry for scouts in the northeast. He is also a co-founder of the TrailBound Project ([https://www.trailboundproject.com](https://adknjr.us19.list-manage.com/track/click?u=e83a6b731e1bc2b9cb584c193&id=195bfaebfd&e=4d28a5d3e9)). The vision of the TrailBound Project is to inspire and help those who wish to
experience the wilderness safely by teaching the necessary skills through courses & challenges, resulting in fun and memorable
experiences while filling the woods with capable outdoors people.
Scott will provide background on the TrailBound Project, maybe share some stories relating to hiking & backpacking, and will touch on a few topics from among the following:
• Animal encounters (bears, coyotes, snakes, bees/wasps, etc.)
• Hiking safety– weather, dogs, water crossings, hiking alone, etc.
• Wilderness first aid
• Backpacking
• Winterhiking– layering, microspikes, snowshoes, crampons, ice axes, etc.
