NKHR art exhibition in Insadong about North Korean refugees

Details
Our parent NGO, Citizens' Alliance for North Korean Human Rights, is hosting an art exhibition about North Korean refugees. Although this isn't a fundraiser to rescue refugees, it will help spread awareness about the challenges they must overcome.

Beyond the Panopticon
An art exhibition depicting the lives of North Korean refugees
Citizens’ Alliance for North Korean Human Rights (NKHR) invites you to Beyond the Panopticon, a multi-media art exhibition depicting the lives of North Korean refugees.
Beyond the Panopticon explores the hardships North Korean refugees face, evoking the fear and apprehension that stem from North Korea’s pervasive surveillance and state control. For North Korean refugees, the journey from North to South Korea becomes a panopticon—a type of prison in which captives are constantly visible, yet do not know when they are being observed. As if in a panopticon, North Korea continues to exert power over even those who have escaped, instilling a fear of being visible, of being discovered.
Beyond the Panopticon features original work by North Korean artist Chunhyok Kang; a collaborative piece between three North Korean art students at Hongik University, Chungguk Ahn, Su Min Ahn, Jin Song Ko, and South Korean art students from Dankook University; and photographs of North Korean refugees by photojournalist Soon-ho Choi.
Various events also will be held during the week of the exhibition (June 10 to 15), including an artist-led gallery tour, discussions with North Korean resettlers, and a live drawing by Chunhyok Kang. A schedule of events is below. All events are free of charge.
