Data Science in the Cloud
Details
Due to current developments, we have decided to move the meetup to June 11th.
After our launch, looking at the different cloud native databases, we are now going to expand our horizon to 'Data science in the cloud'.
17:30 - Start with food
18:30 - "Data science in the cloud on a shoestring", by Ruben van der Zwaan
Ruben's talk will be about the lessons learned while setting up a 'Data science lab' in the cloud at Qmusic.
Qmusic is one of the largest radio stations in the Netherlands and part of DPG Media. The goal was to go from ad-hoc analysis to a continuous and systematic process to get insights in their data. This included collecting data, CI/CD, analytics and dashboarding. Currently he is wrapping up version 1.0 and this is a good time to reflect on the project.
As any proper project it started with the goals that the solution should be good, cheap and delivered fast. Interestingly, their definition of cheap for this project was different than usual: it should be cheap in time for their technical team. Both cheap in maintenance, as in learning the system. Their scarcest resource is an engineer that can handle both broadcasting, hardware and software. Being 'cheap' became a guide instead of a hindrance and led to different technical design choices.
In this talk he will talk about the choices that were made, both good and bad.
19:15 - "I am a CLOUD data scientist", by Longhow Lam
'I don’t know what that means, I am just using Dataiku!'
In this presentation, Longhow will give a brief overview of the data science platform Dataiku. Why would a company need such a platform at all? And given that there are different data science platforms out there (in the cloud), how does Dataiku compare and fit into that?
The event fee is 27,50 EUR (to be paid upon registration with PayPal) which includes a meal (probably sate or burgers), as well as coffee, tea and water. NO REFUNDS.
20:00 End, and like the previous meetup; drinks (at own expense) at Taplokaal Gist, which is just around the corner....
