The microbiome: Can gut bacteria change your mood?

Details

Bacteria in our gut affect our wellbeing and disease. They communicate with the brain, and contribute to the conversion of bodily substances into mood-affecting neurotransmitters such as serotonin, the hormone of happiness. In this talk, you'll learn about the exciting cross talk between the gut bacteria and brain and how it is shaped by your diet.

Sahar El Aidy is Assistant Professor of microbiology at the University of Groningen. With her interdisciplinary team, she aims to unravel how gut bacteria affect our mood and behavior.
