Celtic field: bench & view point

Blokarting, or sand yachting, is great outdoor adventure for everyone who likes beach and wind! It is one of the most popular beach activities of the moment. The wind almost always blows in the Netherlands and anyone can do it. Imagine yourself sailing across the beach, feeling the thrill zipping along at high speed...
A blokart is basically a go-kart but with three wheels and a sail in the middle. You sit low to the ground, use the sail to steer, and control your speed.
Let's head out with a group to try this out and have drinks and lunch at the beach bar/restaurant afterwards, sharing our cool stories. After lunch we have 3 options: we can do poewrkiting, other outdoor games or hike through the dunes and along the beach.Gathering 11:15 at the beach bar/restaurant in Hoek van Holland (10 minutes walk from metro station) for meeting & greeting. The exact address will be given after signing up.
Program
11:15 - 12:00 Meeting & greeting + drinks at beach bar/restaurant
12:00 - 13:00 Blokarten with guide
13:00 - 14:00 Lunch
14:00 - 16:00 3 options: powerkitten, outdoor games or walk along the beachAfter a brief introduction and instructions from a professional, we hop into our blokarts and put our new skills into practice, learning some steering skills and getting used to the speed. Afterwards it is time to zoom down the beach and experience the wind power in our sail.
We’ll have the karts a whole hour to make many nice laps. It’s plenty of time to have a lot of fun.
Afterward, we’ll all head to the beach bar to relax and chat about our adventure with wel deserved drinks and tasty appetizers, and your first drink (choose from coffee, tea, soft drinks, draft beer, or house wine) is included.Blokarting: zooming down the beach!
This sport made its way from New Zealand to Europe a few years ago. The great thing about blokarting is that it's a challenging sport quick and easy to learn, and accessible to everyone: even for those who have never sailed before.
A blokart is a three-wheeled cart with a seat close to the ground, ensuring great weight distribution and a low center of gravity. This design helps prevent tipping over when the wind fills the sail. At the heart of the blokart is the mast, which holds the sail that lets you control both steering and speed.
Before we dive in, our experienced instructor will explain all the techniques to ensure everyone can start safely. Thanks to different sail sizes, blokarting can be enjoyed even in light wind and under almost any weather conditions. Blokarting is better on hard sandy beach during low tide. Therefore, the starting time depends on the tide, which varies from day to day.
* If there’s not sufficient wind to sail, the event might rescheduled/postponed or they can offer an alternative program.Powerkitten: jump on the beach!
The kites come in all shapes and sizes so that kites can also be flown with less wind. There are also small kites for people who want to experience kiting in a relaxing way. Professional instructors will teach you step by step the basic principles of power kiting. You then learn the different tips and tricks with special kites such as 'nasawings' and 'mattresses'. Once you have control of the power kite, you can even try to make a jump on the beach!Outdoor games
If you prefer other games. I will provide some games (Kubbs, jeu de boules, ball sports, card games and more...), and you can also bring your favourite outdoor games or card games if you want.Notifications:

This is a nice -+ 17 km hike through fresh green nature to the stunning Monte Cervino rock in the middle of polderlandscape with Bergse bos forests and along the idyllic Rotte river, in north-east of Rotterdam!
I know the area very well as I used to live nearby before, will be happy to show you around the hidden gems!Gathering 10:45 @ train station NS Rotterdam Noord in front of the ticket machine. We start the hike here short after meeting and greeting. The hike ends at metro station Ambachtsland (20 mintues to NS Rotterdam Central).
Hillegersberg & Bergse Plassen
From the train station, we will imediately walk in the nature, through a nice path along the idyllic river de Rotte, where the name of the city Rotterdam comes from. We can make a small deviation to visit pitorresque Hillegersberg with its Hilagonda church, a formar village, but now a neighbourhood of Rotterdam: a green residential area with lakes, canals and parks.Rottemeren lakes
The centuries-old peat river the Rotte is the backbone of the Rottemeren recreatiol area: a mosaic of forests and ponds on the edge of Rotterdam, where you can enjoy the outdoors and nature.
The area is also a bird paradise. The singing of reed birds can be heard more and more often in flooded willow groves and on the small islands in the Zevenhuizerplas.Lage Bergse bos (forest)
The Lage Bergse bos is a forest in the romantic English landscape style, with ponds, winding paths, islands and beautiful views through the trees. And we might come across Scottish Highlanders. In the grazing areas, these cattle ensure that the area does not become overgrown with trees.Restaurant Bergse Plas
Halfway the hike, we will pass this restaurant where we can have drinks or more (lunch) for who wants. It's a cozy restaurant on the lake, they have a varied menu with the tastiest meals, lunch dishes as well as pancakes.
https://www.bergscheplas.nl/Hoge Bergse bos (forest)
The Hoge Bergse bos was once a rubble dump, which has now been transformed into a hilly landscape with bushes. There is even an (outdoor!) artificial ski slope and a mountain bike trail! It is a popular recreation area where people run, rollerblade, skate, roller-ski, survive, play (disk) golf, mountain bike and climb (indoors and outdoors)!Outdoor valley & Monte Cervino
This is a 34-metre-high climbing mountain, built in the shape of the top of Monte Cervino, the mountain on the Swiss side of the Matterhorn.
Here, we can have a small break, and look at the climbers. A climb of Monte Cervino must be a unique experience: hanging at a height of 30 meters, the hills of the high Bergse forest on one side and the skyline of Rotterdam on the other! Who dares? ;-)Lookout tower
Another option is to climb the watching tower a bit further, with a spectacular view over the Monte Cervino rock and the surroundings hilly forests and lakes. It is an impressive 22 meter high 3 diementional tower, like a true work of art standing on the top of the 'mountain' and offering he most beautiful views at different heights and in different directions.
The construction consists of an ingenious framework of white steel columns with stairs and smaller and larger platforms. The wooden railings provide the necessary contrast and a somewhat softer appearance.Zevenhuizerplas lake
This is one of the largest lakes in South-Holland, where we can swim and sunbathe by nice weather. On the north bank there is a quiet swamp forest with poplars. There are also 4 four nature islands.Come and discover this wildernesses of Rotterdam's De Rotte region, a peace of Alps in a polder landscape with lakes and forests!

Estate Duin & Kruidberg
From train station, we follow the Dutch Coast Path, heading to this awesome country estate in the wooded inner dunes. This was part of the hunting domain of William III, the Prince of Orange. In the 19th century, it came into the pocession of wealthy Amsterdam merchants. This can be seen in impressive chestnut and beech avenues and the park garden with the rhododendrons and in the ice cellar. The romantic ruin of Brederode
Soon we will pass the remains of this medieval castle of the lords of Brederode, built in the 13th century by William I of Brederode, on a strategic connecting road through the county of Holland. The castle was besieged, plundered and rebuilt several times during war periods in the 14th and 15th centuries. After the last siege in 1491, the castle finally fell into ruins.Kennemer dunes
The Kennemer dunes are the heart and the largest area of National Park Zuid Kennemerland with a rich flora and fauna. However, there is some human influence: the dune lakes are all man-made, with Corsican and Austrian pines planted on the tops of the dunes.
Thanks to effective management, the dynamics have returned though. The wind is moving sand once more, allowing the dunes to drift again. With the cessation of water extraction, moisture-loving plants such as parnassia, centaury, and orchids are making a comeback.
The area is not only home to foxes, deer, fallow deer, and rabbits but also hosts a variety of birds, insects, and amphibians are spotted.Potluck picnic

During this hike, we will pass 6 different lakes: Oosterplas, Kleine Omen, Groot Olmen, Spartel lake, and 't Wed lake.
A real special gem, especially for bird lovers, is the idyllic Vogelmeer with its two islands. Dune birds such as the green woodpecker, woodlark, and blackbird are welcome guests here. We can peacefully observe these creatures from the bird-watching hut.
The last one ('t Wed) is a perfect spot for swimming, with some Caribbean vibes ;-)Visitor Centre & dunes café
Towards the end of the hike, we can also look around the visitor centre and have some drinks here.Put your shoes on and come to explore this precious dunes, forests, lakes and beach!

Jeu des Boules is the general name for some related sports, with Pétanque as most famous variant, popular in France. The game consists in throwing heavy balls as close as possible to a smaller target ball. Players begin by drawing a circle on the ground, from which they will throw their boules. The game starts with a smaller target ball.
Players take turns throwing or rolling their boules to get them as close as possible to the target. The team whose boule is closest to the target scores points.Picnic

The route goes through hilly and winding cycling roads with nice view points and overlooking the sea now and then. In between, we will have a lunch break in a nice beach restaurant.
Gathering @ station NS Leiden CS at 10:30.The ride ends at metro Station Hoek van Holland strand, where we take the metro to train station NS Rotterdam.
Oestgeest estates
The estate and castle itself are not to be sneezed at either. Dating from 1668, the castle was the residence of the famous professor Boerhaave. Around it, you can see the estate, which consists of 10 hectares of deciduous forest, a monumental gatehouse, forester's house and a chapel.Katwijk aan Zee
This is an old fisherman village. On the promenade you can notice the Andreaskerk medieval church (1470) and De Vuurbaak lighthouse (1605).Nature reserve Berkheide
Berkheide is a special dune area and part of the Hollandse Duinen National Park. The open dune landscape with grasslands is interspersed here and there with forest or shrubbery. In some places remnants of agricultural use can be seen in the form of former potato fields. The area is plenty of more than 300 bird species.Meijendel dunes
Forest, dunes, meadows, winding waters, lakes and vast grasslands characterize the landscape here. The area is very rich with a big variety of plant and animal species, this makes every visit a real adventure!
From the highest dune we can see the North Sea on clear days.Scheveningen and Kijkduin
In the bustling seaside villages of Scheveningen and later Kijkduin, we can have a nice lunch break and/or drinks in one of the fancy beach restaurants.Westduin park dunes
Beautiful city behind the dunes' is a line from a well-known Hague song that is mostly about the city. Westduinpark (West Dune Park) between Scheveningen and Kijkduin is one of the largest nature reserves in The Hague. The conservation dune park near Zuiderstrand has a highly diverse landscape with dense forests and open spaces, wet dune valleys and high dune tops, bunker ruins from World War II and Scottish Highland cows that roam about freely.Zandmotor
This is a special artificial peninsula on the Dutch coast, named the Sand Motor, with its dune lake and lagoon. It is a sandbar shaped like a hook, which has been built to defend and strengthen the Dutch coast. The shape changes due to the dynamic action of waves, wind and currents, widening the beaches and dunes in a natural way.Hoek van Holland
This is a beach town in the south corner of South-Holland province, hence the name hoek (corner' in Dutch). It is located at the mouth of the New Waterway shipping canal into the North Sea.Here we can have drinks before heading to the metro station.
Jump on your bike and enjoy cycling through the dunes all along the South-Holland coast!
